| Everyone loses scalp hair called alopecia. Baldness refers to excessive loss of hair from your scalp. It can be brought on by hereditory factors, medical condition or even drug therapy. The commonest type of hair loss is called androgenetic alopecia. It is responsible for about 95% of the cases of baldness in the United States. Androgenetic alopecia occurs a lot more in males than in females. Two factors impact on hair growth: a genetic predisposition to excessive hair loss and the male hormone TESTOSTERONE. Usually, an enzyme in hair follicles converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT stimulates the growth of body and beard hair, but also diminishes hair follicles on the scalp, resulting in thinner, fuzzier growth. A genetic predisposition, alongside higher levels of testosterone and DHT, increases the probability baldness. Baldness is observed when the number of hair shedding exceeds the rate of re-growth or when the re-growth is thinner and/or shorter than the hair that is shed. Androgenetic alopecia is considered a cosmetic defect. One of the most powerful methods to treat it sanctioned by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is Finasteride (Propecia). Taken daily in a pill form, Propecia deteriorates the conversion of testosterone to DHT, hence preventing the diminishing of hair follicles. The drug therapy must not be taken by females, because it may bring on birth deformities. Generic Propecia, which is as effective in treating alopecia as the branded version, is low-priced and, therefore, can be bought by a larger number of males experiencing baldness. At the end of 24 months' study 83% of males aged 18 - 41 with mild to moderate treated with Generic Propecia have demonstrated positive results of the Generic Propecia. Most men reported an increase in the amount of hair, a decrease in hair loss, and improvement in appearance. Generic Propecia may trigger adverse side effects. In clinical studies, adverse side effects from Generic Propecia were rare and did not impact most men. An insignificant number of men faced some sexual adverse side effects, such as less desire for sex, difficulty in achieving an erection and a decrease in the amount of semen. These adverse side effects were temporary and disappeared in males after they stopped taking the medication. These side effects also went away in most males (58%) who kept on taking Generic Propecia.
